With Soundcloud your songs benefit from the social media effect through reposting and likes, which is basically similar to Twitter’s retweet and favorite buttons. When someone reposts your song, it not only shows up on their page but also on their stream (which is equivalent of Facebook’s newsfeed). The more reposts your song has the more exposure it gets because it has the potential of being see by the people that follow the person that’s reposting it.
After typing 'unsigned into soundcloud's search bar, many search results came up with artists who have posted their music online to achieve more publicity and recognition. I came across an artist named Woddy Green, and after listening to his music I think it would suit our groups genre of grime/hip hop perfectly, and would also have massive potential for music videos.
Best of British Unsigned Music:
Best of British Unsigned is a weekly radio show that gives the best, British unsigned musicians the
recognition and the airplay that they deserve. It was established in 2011, they broadcast on radio stations in 15 countries. Once on the website, you are able to click on the music map and select a number of artists and bands residing in the UK. You are then able to contact them via social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
However, I did not find this website useful because it had limited search facilities compared to SoundCloud. I also found it much easier to contact artists/bands on SoundCloud compared to Best Of British Unsigned Music.
Overall, after comparing the two websites I would prefer to use SoundCloud to contact our artist, as there is more options of unsigned artists to choose from.
With regards to contacting the artist, T-Dollars (artist found on SoundCloud and youtube) only has 298 followers and follows 187, he would more than likely respond to a message from our group regarding his music. Our artist is located in croyden, and we are also in contact with him, therefore it would be possible to get an interview with him In regards to the interview, we could conduct one over skype and record the footage to then post on our blogs,
On SoundCloud it is very easy to get in contact with an artist, as there are links to their social media accounts, therefore contacting him wouldn't be a problem.
In conclusion, the three artists I came across and enjoyed content of are Woddy Green, T Dollars and J antz. After discussing with the group, we have decided to go with T-Dollars , as we got his permission via e-mail.
